Luoyan (Lokyin) Liu is a Chinese soprano and versatile musician whose artistry spans opera, contemporary songwriting, and music production. She recently completed her Master of Music degree with distinction at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she also earned her Bachelor of Music, following initial studies at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee on a full scholarship. At RNCM, she trained under German tenor Thomas Schulze, consistently receiving distinctions in her recitals and achieving the highest final recital mark in her department’s history.
On stage, Liu has appeared as Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann with Preston Opera, soprano soloist in Haydn’s The Creation, Bernstein’s Mass, and Mozart’s Christmas Oratorio, as well as chorus member in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus. She was a Hallé Soprano Scholar in 2022–23 and has performed as a featured soloist for national and community events. Her musical personality has been described as expressive, creative, and fearless in taking artistic risks.
Beyond classical performance, Liu is an active songwriter and arranger. Her work spans film, gaming, and commercial soundtracks, including projects for Huawei, BYD, Vivo, and Tencent’s VALORANT. As both songwriter and performer, she has released original songs such as Lonely Island (2025) and Farewell, now (2025). She also regularly collaborates with producers in arranging and recording vocals across genres from pop to R&B.
She has further honed her craft in masterclasses and workshops, notably with world-renowned soprano Sumi Jo in Augsburg, where she was inspired by the artistic and cultural impact of a leading operatic figure. Liu is committed to building her career in Europe while sharing opera with wider audiences, aiming to connect her classical foundation with a broad musical vision.
