Chinese soprano, Lokyin Liu is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Studies from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester after transferring from Boston Conservatory at Berklee in the United States. Lokyin has studied and been trained under the tutelage of Professor Kathryn Wright and is currently studying with Thomas Schulze. She was the recipient of the entrance scholarship award from Boston Conservatory and was on the Dean’s list twice (Fall 2020 and Spring 2021).

Lokyin started singing in primary school as a chorister. She sang first soprano in the Zhixin High School Choir, which won the silver prize of the World Choir Game twice. In 2018, she sang as the lead vocalist at the Joint Concert of Zhixin High School Orchestra and Choir. At Royal Northern College of Music, she sang with the chamber choir in the 2021/2022 season. The choir successfully held several concerts and performances around Manchester. In mid-2022, she has been selected to sing as a soloist with Holmes Chapel Singers at St.Luke Church, Cheshire, and secured a place as a first soprano and scholar at Hallé choir.

Lokyin’s talent and determination were evident from a young age and she is well-versed in both pop and classical areas. She won the third prize in the Voice of China in 2020, as well as the Gold Prize in the Chinese Small Golden Bell Contest in 2018.

Besides being a vocalist, Lokyin is also a pianist and arranger. She started studying piano at the age of four and is currently doing accompaniment work with other singers. She has also arranged several pop-music items, and her style ranges from hip-hop to rock with a fusion of traditional oriental instruments and musical styles. One of her arrangements has even hit 230,000 views on Bilibili, a video website in China.

As a light coloratura soprano, Lokyin shows great interest in Baroque and Classical music. She aims to be a concert vocalist to perform various genres of repertoire.
